Tip for Understanding Islamic Concepts (#291)

Question:

Osama’s tips for understanding Islamic concepts

If you do not know whether a particular Surah is from the period in Mecca or Medina, you might want to stop yourself, before telling (not suggesting [there’s a big difference]) others what the particular ayah or Surah means.

Why does this matter?

Oh, for a whole host of reasons:

You must consider the particular political/economic/physical position/location of the Muslims, of The Prophet, of the rules that had been revealed compared to those that had not, and how you should understand whether the ayah in question is of general import, or of a very narrow and/or specific context.

Just to name a few.
